Who will be the "Chop Idol"?

The search is now on for the UK’s top young talent in an ambitious new television programme, Young Chef of the Year 2009.

Can't sing - but CAN cook? Then forget about the million pound recording contract and head towards a rewarding career as a chef and become the next John Campbell, Cyrus Todiwala or Michael Caines - or indeed Jamie or G
ordon. Top chefs dont even need surnames these days!

Young Chef of the Year is part of a new BBC Three series celebrating young trade talent across the country. It’s been dubbed ‘Chop Idol’ and it will celebrate our country’s young unsung heroes.

There are talent shows for dancers, singers and entertainers but the winners of these competitions dont get as much air time as those at the top of the chef world.

If you are a talented young chef, BBC Three wants to hear from you. Or if you know someone who fits the bill please get in touch.

They are looking for someone who can be a true ambassador for their trade, who is aged 16-25 years, up for a challenge and wants to show the world their skills!

Want to know more? Email: youngtalent@bbc.co.uk or contact the Casting Team, BBC TVC, room 3136, Wood Lane, London W12 7RJ

To apply for an application form - Email: youngtalent@bbc.co.uk Call: 03700 101 616*

Write: Send a SAE to Young Talent Casting Team, Room 3136, BBC Television Centre, London W12 7RJ

Age limit: Applicants must be 16 years of age and over on the closing date

Closing date: 6th March 2009

Cyrus Todiwala appointed Deputy Lieutenant

Celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala (MBE) has been made a Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Greater London. Cyrus joins other dignitaries such as Lord Karan Bilimoria.

Cyrus was installed as Deputy Lieutenant at Westminster Country Hall by Sir David Brewer, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London on 10th December 2008.

A Deputy Lieutenant’s duties are to act as a Royal representative at events and functions where the royal family have been invited but cannot attend in person. Should a member of the Royal family attend an event, the DL is the first to receive a Royal party and then introduce them to the host.

We congratulate Cyrus and wish him all the very best of luck as a Royal representative. This is yet more recognition for all of his tireless work for others though we will have to check how we now address him at board meetings.

China flush with gifted and talented students

Size matters does matter sometimes - If you are one in a million in China there are 1,300 like you and the 5%of the population with the highest IQ exceeds the total population of the UK.

The sheer scale of these powerhouses is writ large when we consider the future talent pipeline - China or for that matter India have more gifted and talented students than we have students.

Jim Sullivan - Just the tonic!

We are delighted to be able to endorse the return of the Sullivan!

Jim Sullivan one of the most engaging and thought provoking exponents i have come across.

Direct, Funny, insightful and riddled with real operational experiences and examples you have to get your "Jimsights" when we is over from the States. Peach hope to try and make thisan annual thing - but dont take the chance. Yes times are tough but this will provide valuable advice, humour and be worth every penny.

I have seen Jim twice before but still look forward to the third time.
